Hubs (at left) and my brother-in-law picking (and tasting!) schtwawbawies at the U-pick farm. Doing their little part to forward the good work of the Schtwawbawy Revolution! |
Uh…Shtwawbawies??
Let me explain: We went to the U-Pick Strawberry farm last weekend and that’s what this kid told his grandparents that he was picking! “Yeah, I’m gonna pick Shtwaw-bawies!” he said 🙂 Hilarious! What do shtwawbawies have to do with authentic, colorful, natural jewelry? It’s all a part of my Big Picture. We came away from that farm with more than some really delicious and fresh berries (and donuts!), we came away with a feeling of fulfillment and meaning. We’d picked food we were going to eat and we’d used our money to support a farm that was supporting us. We connected with the source of our sustenance, we’d laughed together at the joy of a little guy connecting to the source of his sustenance. We lived a Saturday more fully than we might have and it felt great!
That’s the same feeling you get when you purchase something from a handmade artisan (like myself!) You get to move one step closer to the “real business of life” and really connect with the source of your earrings and the source (me) gets to connect with you. If you give the earrings as a gift, then THAT person connects too. Slowly, but surely, an interconnected web of relationships and meaningful interactions develops. A real difference from the big-box culture that’s become dominant in our society. Shtwawbawy Revolution! 😀
Speaking of earrings, I’ve got a little present for you: There’s still time to sign up for my Earring Giveaway! (A value of between $80-$125! You can see the full details of the Earring Giveaway here.) AND as a special thank you for reading my Schtwawbawy Shtory, let me tell you how to submit a super secret BONUS ENTRY to the contest: After you sign up for the newsletter, send me an email ( jennyhoople AT gmail.com ) and tell me a funny childhood word that you or your siblings or your children or whoever used to say! I’ll publish the replies (anonymously) in next week’s newsletter (which you’ll be signing up for to enter the Earring Giveaway) to help us all get to know each other a little better 😀 Here’s one from my own childhood to get the party started: I used to call women “woolies”. As in, “Look, Aunt Sara! There goes a wooly!!” Hah! I sent this request for Bonus Entries to the people who’ve already entered the Giveaway and boy do I have a lot of hilarious answers to share with all of you in next week’s newsletter! Viva la Revolucion del Handmade!! Que viva!
You’ll be entered to win your choice of ANY 5 pairs of earrings from my Etsy shop when you sign up for my newsletter! |
