These pottery bowls are beautiful, right? It’s almost Christmas, I should quick offer them up for sale and make all your gifting dreams come true!!
But I can’t…not yet.
There’s one tiny detail that I need to work out before I can offer these bowls for sale.
Right now, they’re covered in beautiful oxides. But, for them to be food safe, they need to have a smooth, protective glaze between the porous pot and your brown rice and broccoli.
I’ve been testing clear matte glazes and they’ve all fired beautifully except for one tiny detail. The glaze is covered in subtle, beautiful little cracks.
I have purchased bowls from potters with this glaze defect. I use them every day. But the risk for bacteria to get into those cracks and take up residence is still there. I can’t sell a bowl like that with a clear conscience.
So, I’m still testing glazes!

Also, stay tuned for my first Christmas ornaments. The ornaments are drying right now and I’ll be firing them soon. Patrons at the $3/month level and up will be getting an ornament this year as a patron reward! (Probably after Christmas, c’est la vie!) Next year, ornaments will be ready in plenty of time for the holidays. I’m going to make a new, limited edition ornament design every year.
If you sign up or level up to the $3 pledge level before the end of the year, you can get in on this year’s ornament. I’ll share the design with you as soon as they’re fired!!
Later this week, I’ll share an exclusive story in my Patron feed about the series of coral reef sculptures I’ve started making! Sign up to become a patron and get access to this and more exclusive art stories.
Talk to you soon, Jenny
