First, I want you to know, that I am on a mission.
I am making these ceramic sculptures to do my part to reconnect people with their innate sense of wonder/meaning/connection. I’m not making them to “have another thing to sell”. Admittedly, that’s mostly why I make the jewelry. To support myself and my family financially.
The ceramics are different.
It will be great when they support us financially (because we need to eat and pay bills and stuffs) but I need to make them no matter what. It is my sacred duty to make them. I put aside this mission after college because I needed to make money and survive. Life is short. I can’t ignore my Great Life Work any longer, so I’m letting go and jumping in.
My jewelry is still available in my online shop, and I’m still making it when I need to restock, but I’m not going to worry about pushing to make money. Instead, I’ll be humbly asking if you can help me earn money when it feels good for to you to help. In return, I’m going to delve deep into the worlds of meaning and understanding and into the heart of nature and create large, organic ceramic sculptures that help us to know more of ourselves and of the nature of life. And that brings us back to this little spirit bear. He’s a test piece for a larger sculpture that I have all built and ready to fire. My Patreon patrons have heard the mind-bending story of that sculpture’s creation in my private Patreon feed, and it’s a good one!
This bear sculpture will be a little darker and more saturated after firing, (the outside is color 6503 on the chart.) AND when it’s done, it will be offered as one of the end-of-year patron gifts for my $20/month Patreon patrons.
If you’re not a $20/month patron and you need a sculpture like this to bring peace and beauty and wonder into your home, then click here to pledge at the $20/month level. It’s like making installment payments on a sculpture! And what easier way to begin collecting original art?
Now, about the stain colors: These are the colors I’m going to start playing with 🙂 the seafoam green has been put on timeout and maybe the orange in the upper right corner. It’s very cheetos color in person… Doesn’t fit.
Getting color in ceramics is so much different than painting. The chemicals can interact and give you totally different results than you were expecting. The colors work a bit like unpredictable watercolors 😉 I painted a bunch of small sculptures this week and did a firing to test how the colors interact and I CAN’T WAIT to show you the results 😀
Wishing you a week full of sleeping bear spirits, Jenny
